Art Portfolio Two - Curious Creatures, Initial Idea

When the lock down was implemented in March I lost my job and I had to stay at home so I had more free time to play video games. One of the games I enjoyed playing was the horror game Dying Light. This zombie survivor game can be very jumpy at times and kept me on edge due to its unpredictability, especially when I played it at night and because I was already anxious from the pandemic. I played many video games within the horror genre and/or the zombie genre but Dying Light could be ranked the most scary of them all. I find zombies very interesting and I have watched many zombie films and television shows such as The Walking Dead. The word Zombie means ''the living dead'' and in this game they are called ''the infected''. There are different types of infected like: Biters, Virals, Screemers, Goons, Demolishers, Minors, Toads and Exploders, as well as Bloters, Night Hunters and Volatiles which only appear at night. These different types vary in strength and speed and some of them are impossible to survive. The first-person player use different combat and climbing mechanics such as parkour, and gets to upgrade his skills using survivor points gained from completing the main story mission, side missions and challenges. The game is an open world which has two parts namely the slums where the story begins, and the second part ''city of Harran'' which can be unlocked by completing some main story missions. The game was developed by Techland and Published by Warner Bros, and it was released in January 2015.
What I like to do as a project is to make a fan art gallery, paint (on canvas) these creatures in their environment. I am going to select four different 'infected' and draw them as they come in the game, either by themselves or in packs in their respective areas. And from terracotta clay I could form a sculpture of one selected infected type. I will use acrylics to paint on both canvas and clay.
I have looked at Dying light zombie fan art for inspiration such as:

  1. With fan art, you have to be considerate about copyright, so this would be something to research for this project to ensure you are not infringing on any rights of the game owner and developer. I'm liking the other ideas better at this point.
